“When Teresa Manara saw Lecce for the first time, she felt invaded by the same kind of silence that had captivated her husband Giovanni Battista Cantele years before. A sudden, irresistible fascination,
to the point that she couldn’t help but stay.”

This wine is a story
that begins with a glance, and begins with the early twentieth century. From that hourglass, suspended over a sepia-toned Italy, comes the destiny of a family and a company that bears the name of Giovanni Battista Cantele. He was the first to cross glances at the center of this story, it happened in Imola, in the midst of the war. Giovanni Battista Cantele had left Pramaggiore, where he was born, behind him to reach the exact center of his life. It was in the shape of a woman’s profile who would one day become his wife, the mother of his children – Augusto and Domenico – and would inspire the wine that today bears her name: Teresa Manara.

The Great War was over
Giovanni Battista had approached the bulk wine market, a world that began in Puglia, where he traveled to choose the dark nectar to take away, north.
When Teresa Manara saw Lecce for the first time, the time she decided to accompany her husband on one of the many business trips, she felt invaded by the same type of silence that had enraptured Giovanni years before. A sudden, irresistible fascination. To the point that she couldn't help but stay. Just as migrants were leaving Salento to make ends meet in the big industrial cities, so far from a harsh land, almost an island.

Augusto, the teenage son
one day in 1979 would found Cantine Cantele, together with his father and his brother Domenico after studying at the Research Center for Viticulture in Conegliano and working in the Venetian cellars with a particular passion for white wines. In the 1970s, while the world was changing once again, Augusto joined his family in Lecce, starting to work as a consultant in Guagnano and Salice Salentino until the early 1990s, when a few hectares of vineyards were purchased and Cantele wines were produced.

Today, the grandchildren
of Teresa Manara and Giovanni Battista Cantele continue to write this family story poured to drink in many glasses. Augusto Cantele's children, Gianni and Paolo, and Domenico's children, Umberto and Luisa. They have a common look, a liquid talent, a dream called wine.
