Krug Grande Cuvée 172ème Édition is built around the 2016 harvest, a year of such contrasting weather conditions that it becomes a caricature of the climatic pendulum. An extremely wet spring, with 70% more rainfall than usual between April and June, makes work in the vineyard difficult and increases the incidence of disease. From flowering onwards, the weather is milder, allowing the vineyard to recover and culminating in a heat wave at the end of ripening. The harvest marathon takes place from September 9 to October 2, offering classic bunches in good health and wines that overflow with expression and character, regardless of variety and origin. To create this Edition of Krug Grande Cuvée, the Cellar Master sought to accentuate the year’s elegant and varied aromatic expressions with reserve wines from different plots and 10 different years, giving it a unique fullness of flavors and aromas that cannot be expressed with wines from a single harvest. The care given to the vineyards and the attention paid by Krug to the unique characteristics of each plot and each wine have enabled the depth of expression of this Edition of Krug Grande Cuvée. It is the Complete Orchestra that interprets the Symphony of Champagne.

In total, the reserve wines from the House’s extensive collection make up 42% of the final blend, providing breadth and roundness, essential elements of each edition of Krug Grande Cuvée.

The final composition of this Edition of Krug Grande Cuvée is 44% Pinot Noir, 36% Chardonnay and 20% Meunier.
TASTING NOTES
A pale golden color, fine and lively bubbles, a true promise of pleasure. Aromas of freshly bloomed flowers, ripe and dried citrus fruits, but also marzipan, and gingerbread. Notes of hazelnut, nougat, barley sugar, fruit jelly, citrus fruits, almonds, brioche and honey.

FOOD PAIRING
Krug Grande Cuvée lends itself to a multitude of culinary pairings, from the simplest to the most sophisticated, from aged parmesan to turbot with truffles. This Champagne can be chosen as an aperitif, accompanied by Jabugo ham and aged comté or paired with oysters, grilled scampi, Indian or Moroccan dishes, as well as desserts such as carrot cake, tarte tatin or cheesecake.
