Krug Grande Cuvée was born from the dream of a man, Joseph Krug, to offer the best Champagne ever every year, regardless of climatic variations. Since 1843, the House of Krug has honored this mission with each new edition of Krug Grande Cuvée: the ultimate expression of Champagne.

Krug Grande Cuvée is recreated every year, going beyond the concept of vintage, always starting from a blend of over 120 wines from over 10 different vintages. The richness of the hints and aromas obtained from this skilful blend would be impossible to express with the wines of a single vintage.

The 2013 harvest offered the Maison's most historic plots the necessary conditions to give their best. In this Édition of Krug Grande Cuvée you will find wonderful wines that come from our Ambonnay and Ricey plots. The year's Chardonnays were beautifully fresh and pure, with great intensity and length. The Pinot Noirs were powerful and long with discreetly fruity flavours, while the Meuniers added structure, tension and liveliness. To complete the assembly, wines from different plots and from different years of the first decade of the millennium were selected, including Meuniers from Sainte-Gemme which contribute their warmth, their opulence and their texture, in contrast with the chiseled structure of the Meunier of 2013.

Every year, since its foundation, the Maison Krug creates a new edition of Krug Grande Cuvée to offer the most generous expression of Champagne.

This bottle is part of the 169th Edition of Krug Grande Cuvée, an assembly of 146 wines selected from 11 different vintages. The youngest dates back to 2013, while the oldest is from 2000. The rest of about seven years in the Krug cellars gives this edition a remarkable expression and elegance. Each of his glasses is the result of over 20 years of artisan excellence.

The 169th Edition of Krug Grande Cuvée was created from the 2013 harvest. The season began with a winter that seemed endless, followed by a rainy and cool spring. Fortunately, the summer proved to be hot and sunny, albeit punctuated by hail that did not spare the vineyards. The wines of the year were complete, expressive and full of flavour.

To create this Édition, the Chef de Caves sought to accentuate the fullness and wonderful aromatic elegance of the year with wines from different plots and from 10 different vintages. The care dedicated to the vineyards and the attention reserved by Krug to the unique properties of each soil have made it possible to obtain the great expressiveness of this Édition of Krug Grande Cuvée.

In total, the reserve wines from the Maison's extensive collection make up 40% of the definitive blend, a contribution that brings the breadth and roundness essential to each edition of Krug Grande Cuvée.

The final composition of this bottle of Krug Grande Cuvée is 43% Pinot Noir, 35% Chardonnay and 22% Meunier.
