…where the vine eternally blooms,
under the mountain the bare summit…
Col Vetoraz is located in Santo Stefano di Valdobbiadene on the top of the hill of the same name, part of the famous Cartizze hills. We are on the highest point of the Cartizze area at almost 400 m above sea level, from here the gaze can recognize the entire area, bordered to the east by the locality Fol and to the west by the locality Sacol.

The Miotto family settled on this hill in 1838, developing the cultivation of vines from the beginning (Valdobbiadene DOCG and Valdobbiadene Superiore di Cartizze DOCG).

Our Philosophy
The hills that extend between Valdobbiadene and Conegliano have been home to the cultivation of vines for more than eight hundred years. The history of a wine, especially if of ancient origin, is intimately linked not only to the land that produces it, but also to the men and women who grew up with it. Land, climate, wine, customs, habits, traditions: this, taken as a whole, is the true meaning of “terroir”.

The hills of Valdobbiadene and Conegliano have been graced by the modelling work of man, who over the centuries has been able to design the texture of an enchanted landscape. They are hills with a graceful appearance from which gentle wines are obtained. A centuries-old history that suddenly, in the recent 2009, received a jolt. For a choice exclusively of economic policy, prosecco is no longer the vine that for eight hundred years has found an ideal home on these hills, but has become a denomination extended over nine provinces between Veneto and Friuli.

Territories devoid of history, where the cultivation of the vine is not passed down from generation to generation by the wisdom of the elderly, but has taken on a mainly industrial vision. All this has generated a chaotic situation, where the simple distinction between “prosecco” (wine produced in the territories created in the recent 2009) and “prosecco superiore” (wine produced in the historic hills of Valdobbiadene and Conegliano) is not enough to convey a precise identity.

Today the word prosecco has become generalizing, with the real risk of trivializing and erasing the centuries-old history and vocation of the hills of Valdobbiadene and Conegliano. For this reason we believe it is essential to start a different communication, where the territorial identity is strongly present and not confusing.

With Vetoraz, from the 2017 harvest onwards, it has decided to remove the word prosecco from all labels and all communication, using only the denomination “Valdobbiadene DOCG”, as this is the only true territorial identity.
