ALPESTRE has an ancient history. A history that begins in France, in the Hermitage, on the Gier River. It was 1857 when the Marist Father Brother Emanuel, an expert connoisseur of the therapeutic virtues of herbs, developed the precious recipe that, combining the beneficial properties of 34 aromatic herbs in a clever formula, contains the secret of a great DISTILLATE.

The Arquebuse dell’Hermitage
ALPESTRE was once called “Arquebuse dell’Hermitage”. It was already a great success from the very first years, thanks also to its beneficial principles, in fact, the French government requested the precious product to send to the soldiers engaged in the colonies and use it as a first remedy. The name “Arquebuse” came from the use that was made of the distillate, also used to treat the wounds of the soldiers caused by the adversaries’ arquebuses. The Hermitage, on the other hand, was the place of manufacture.

Carmagnola
Following the promulgation of anticlerical laws in the early 1900s in France, the monks moved to Carmagnola, near Turin, bringing with them the art and secrets of preparation jealously passed down from generation to generation. It is here that today's ALPESTRE distillery was founded in 1904.

Alpestre
Over the years, "l'Arquebuse" enjoyed such success that numerous copies and counterfeits of this distillate were created. It was for this reason, in addition to the ban in place during the twenty years of fascism on using foreign names, that the friars decided to change its name to ALPESTRE.

Onesti Family
Since the end of 2013, the owner of the recipe and the expert production secrets of this brand that belongs to the history of Italian liqueurs is the Onesti Group, which in this way consolidates its leadership position in the Italian beverage market and strengthens its desire to expand beyond the border.
