2022. The winter of 2022 was characterized by a not too harsh climate and, as often happens in recent years, by little rainfall. About a week later than the previous year,
at the end of March the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vines put out their first buds.
Flowering then took place very quickly, concentrated in the second half of May. This
first vegetative phase characterized by the absence of rainfall, on the one hand favored the health of the
grapes, on the other hand, the dry weather and the high average temperatures meant that the looser
soils began to suffer from water stress already around June 20th. In the three crucial months for the vegetative growth of the vine, less than a quarter of the millimeters that have rained on average over the last ten years fell. We recorded the first rain on the evening of Thursday, July 28. The benefit was not negligible, but unfortunately not enough to satisfy the "thirst" of our vineyards. We had to resort to emergency irrigation systems in some vineyards, which are essential interventions to safeguard the qualitative production of the year. The harvest began on Saturday, August 6. Two
rainfall events at the end of the harvest, one on the evening of Ferragosto and one a few days later, on
the 18th, definitively mark the end of the heat and drought for 2022, postponing the end
of the harvest to Saturday the 21st. The harvest lasted 14 days with an average yield per hectare of 8,400
kilograms of grapes, equivalent to 5,300 liters of wine (wine yield: 63%).
Very structured Franciacorta with good acidic freshness; expressive fruit wines on an excellent
citrus base.
Winemaking
The base wines of the Cuvée Prestige are the result of a careful selection of the grapes and a skilful
vinification carried out in full compliance with the Ca’ del Bosco Method. The grapes, hand-picked in small
crates, are classified and cooled. Each bunch is selected by expert eyes and hands,
and then benefits from exclusive “grape spas”. A special system of washing and hydromassage
of the bunches, through three soaking tanks and a drying tunnel. After pressing in the absence
of oxygen, all the musts of the base wines ferment in thermo-conditioned steel tanks
and remain there until the following March. Seven months of refinement are therefore necessary for the
wine to clarify, mature and bring out the character of the vineyards of origin. The wines are then
expertly assembled in the “magic ritual” of creating the cuvée. Only after refinement
on the lees for at least 2 years can this Franciacorta express all its richness and identity. The
dégorgement takes place in the absence of oxygen, using a unique system, designed and patented by Ca’
del Bosco. This avoids oxidative shock and further additions of sulphites. It makes our Franciacortas purer, more pleasant and longer-lived. Finally, each packaged bottle is marked uniquely,
to ensure traceability.
