The 1890 Monaci Guide testifies that Pietro in those years ran a grocery store with a bakery, spread over three house numbers, located in one of the most populous neighborhoods of the city, Esquilino. And only in the space of a few years the stores became four.

Pietro baked a wide variety of biscuits including the Osvego: a fragrant and scented biscuit. He started from a recipe of Anglo-Saxon origin, that of the Oswego, and adapted them to Italian taste through the simplicity of excellent quality ingredients such as flour, butter, barley malt, honey, slow cooking, and then placing them still hot in tin boxes.

Small grocery stores were the main distribution channel for Gentilini biscuits, sold loose, by weight, from the tin box.

The 1950s were characterized by the enthusiasm of the reconquest and reconstruction, so much so that, in the middle of the decade, it became necessary to transfer the business to a new and larger factory.

The new production site, inaugurated in 1958 in Via Tiburtina in Rome, and the awarding of the prestigious Prize for loyalty to work and economic progress projected Gentilini into the decade of the economic boom.

In the 1960s, with the opening and development of the first supermarkets, the company replaced the traditional tin boxes, returnable containers, with paper and polyethylene packaging.

Although the 1970s were a difficult period for the Italian economy, the company's turnover continued to grow: in the city of Rome alone there were 6,500 stores where Gentilini biscuits were present. The distinctive element was the high quality of the products due to a careful selection of raw materials.

In 1975, the employed staff numbered 134 people.

The company faces the 2000s with an important step to take: the transformation of a virtuous family-run production company into a modern company.

After having standardized the graphic design of all products, in 2009 for the first time Gentilini communicates on TV using a non-shouted and gentle approach, in the typical Gentilini style. Since then, the attention to communication has been increasingly important, so much so that in 2014 it obtained the important Key Award for the best animated spot.
