The first gin distilled in Monaco has the scents of citrus fruits that have always been grown in the Principality, and uses only local fruits: in addition to the indispensable juniper berries, the main botanicals are fresh lemon, orange, grapefruit, lime and bergamot peel, with the addition of lemon thyme to accentuate the purely citrus and floral aromatic profile. Distilled in a bain-marie copper alembic by Kothe Distilling in Eislingen, Germany.

History

Founded in 2017 in the heart of the elegant Condamine district, La Distillerie de Monaco is the first and only distillery in the Principality. Long before luxury tourism, yachts and the Grand Prix, the Monegasque territory based a large part of its economy on the cultivation of citrus fruits and Mediterranean fruits. The stated goal is to enclose the authentic flavors and aromas of this terroir in each bottle, using the highest quality raw materials combined with rigorously artisanal methods. The first clients of the Distillerie de Monaco were the most prestigious hotels, restaurants, bars and independent shops in the region, but the distillery is increasingly expanding its influence also on foreign markets.

Production methods

The raw materials represent the main strength of the Distillerie de Monaco: the fruits are grown in a natural way, in full respect of nature and the territory and without pesticides. The three products made so far are: Gin aux Agrumes, a combination of local and untreated bitter and sweet oranges, Menton lemons, fresh ginger, Sichuan pepper and lemon thyme, as well as obviously juniper berries; L'Orangerie, a premium liqueur made from the bitter oranges that line the avenues of the Principality, whose aroma is extracted and processed by hand; Carob, a liqueur whose main ingredient comes from Monaco's national tree; the carob pods are roasted and macerated by hand to extract the best of the complex aromas. All three liqueurs are made without preservatives or any kind of artificial element.
