Starting with a small plot of a less than hectare in 1945, Marcel & Huguette Gitton discovered and pioneered single-site, terroir-focused Sancerres.

Marcel Gitton, the grandfather, was passionate about vineyards and separating each cuvée according to different soils, graftings and exposure. He had been working for other estates since he was 14, after the war, he decided to start planting his own.

 Huguette’s mother was running a delicatessen by the canal during the 1930s and owned a quarter of hectare for the needs of this bistrot. The beginning of our winemaking story then starts, in les Montachins and Malberthée vineyards.

Pascal Gitton, the son,  his Australian wife Denise, and the grand-daughter Chanel, carry on the tradition today. 

The domain now extends to 33 ha on 3 AOCs. The exclusively estate grown & bottled wines have been sold in over 30 countries for more than 40 years.

Pascal joined his father after wine studies, and started making the wine since 1973 vintage, then designed the actual Gitton Père & Fils company  in 1981. He planted vineyards in Pouilly  (1973), in Coteaux du Giennois (1989), & Côtes de Duras, Château Lafon.  

Chanel joined in 2017, after a business degree. 

As we wish to honor the grandfather who created everything, the name “father and son” remains voluntarily, but the estate is now run by “father and daughter”…
