The Origins

Gran Duque de Alba brandy
was released in 1945.

Bodegas Williams & Humbert’s agent in Madrid was close to Jacobo Fitz-James Stuart y Falcó, the 17th Duke of Alba, (father of the Duchess of Alba) and,
prior to the imminent launch of an exclusive brandy, he asked his friend if could name the liquor after him.

The name

After trying it, the aristocrat was pleasantly
impressed and suggested that it would be
more fitting to name such a noble product
after the Grand Duke of Alba, Fernando
Álvarez de Toledo y Pimentel, who had greatly
bolstered the house of Alba and was an
important historical figure.

This is recorded in a written document in
which permission for the brandy’s name
was granted.

New design for the Gran Duque De Alba Range

In 2018, Williams & Humbert decided to revamp the design of the Gran Duque de Alba Brandy range. The new look represents a progression from the            previous one, now with a more contemporary, distinguished and refined aesthetic, featuring a bottle of premium-quality glass, a narrower heel, a thicker bottom, and more pronounced shoulders, which gives it a stylized and exquisite touch.

The aim is for the brandy to be associated with a contemporary, modern and vibrant brand, but while ensuring that the new design is true to our roots, and that the consumer continues to identify this signature Williams & Humbert label through the new design.

Williams & Humbert has striven to stay true to the origins of a design whose creativity is a hallmark of the firm. This step was taken in          response to a need to rejuvenate the brand and distance it from the stereotypical image of brandy as an old-fashioned or antiquated drink, in the hope that the final result will captivate our customers and that they will perceive the countless possibilities this drink offers, ideal for quiet after-dinner chats and large events alike, excellent for slow sipping, and also as a base of cocktails or long drinks.
