History
In 1966 Charles Gordon, descendant of the founding family of William Grant & Son, and then chairman of the group, attended an auction where two stills were for sale. They were not just any distillers, as one is a wonderful copper "Carter Head" still built in 1948 by John Dore & co Ltd in a very limited series, the other was the still used by Marshall & Taplow of Stratford, one of the historic London gin distilleries already present at the time of the Gin Act, a very small 1860 pot still, produced by the legendary Bennet Sons & Shears. Charles Gordon did not let the opportunity slip by, even though he still had no clear ideas on what to do with them. Only years later was the idea born to use them for the production of Hendrick's Gin, which gives an idea of the pioneering mentality of Charles Gordon, the man who invented Single Malt Scotch Whisky. It was then after years of experimentation that Hendrick's Gin was born in 1999.

Production method
Hendrick's Gin's recipe uses 11 botanicals, some classic and some absolutely bizarre for the category: from yarrow to coriander, from juniper to cubeb berries, elderflower, orange and lemon peel, angelica and orris root, with a final infusion of damask rose petals and cucumber. The base spirit used in Hendrick's Gin is a neutral grain spirit at 96.5% ABV. All distillers produce gin slightly differently depending on the recipe of their brands and the flavor profiles they want to achieve. Hendrick's uses both distillation techniques with the help of its special Bennett and Carterhead stills.
