The year was 1928, the young Chiaverini brothers decided to found a small business for the production of jams and preserves, just outside the city walls of Florence.
The fruit was selected and purchased from local farmers, brought to the kitchens of the newly formed family business and transformed into jams. The containers were small wooden tubs that were placed in wicker baskets and transported by bicycle to the city's shops, which in turn sold the product by weight, in waxed paper.
In 1930 the famous cardboard and aluminum container was born which managed to cross national borders, thanks to the expansion of Florentine trade with representatives of the English Embassy. After a few years, the Chiaverini brothers' jams were not only requested by food shops: 5 kg cans were introduced to also meet the requests of pastry shops. Success increases production; the pots created for cooking fruit and sugar soon gave way to the kettles designed by the founders themselves, to be able to double production.
And the deliveries also evolved: while Federico Fellini was shooting the film "La Dolce Vita", the Chiaverini brothers introduced the Lambretta.
The laboratory in Via Locatelli maintains its manual and artisanal tradition but, little by little, is transformed into a factory.
In the 1970s, the internal research and quality control department was opened to follow and monitor production in all its phases.
At the end of the millennium, the colored jar was introduced, with tear-off opening and aroma-saving lid, the same in shape and design but in food-grade polypropylene, which would replace the old aluminized cardboard container from the 1930s.
Then the attention to market trends and orientations led Fratelli Chiaverini to begin the production of jams and marmalades with fruit from organic farming. A lot of progress has been made in these 90 years by wooden tubs, but the quality is still that of the origins and the recipes are still family ones today, handed down from generation to generation, for a flavor that has become history.
