History
Monte Alban takes its name from the most important pre-Columbian archaeological site in the state of Oaxaca. In 1975, it was the first mezcal to be distributed abroad, when each bottle contained the gusano that served as a sales vehicle, since it was said to be an aphrodisiac and hallucinogenic, although it has neither of these two characteristics. Monte Alban is today one of the most popular Mezcals in the United States. It is handled by many distributors and liquor stores and is what many people associate with the word "Mezcal".

Production method
Mezcal Monte Alban was one of the first mezcals to be marketed worldwide. Today, it is distilled in a continuous still from the Espadin agave plant, following a modern production method, through the "difusor", a machine that carries out the entire process from the raw agave, to the column stills.
