Production area

On the sunny slopes of Mazon, above Egna, at an altitude of 400 m above sea level, facing south west, the Holzknecht family takes care of the vines at the „Trattmann“ farm. The clay and lime soil is ideal for Pinot Nero, giving it a velvety softness and an elegant structure.

Winemaking

The grapes are picked by hand and placed in small containers to prevent excess pressure on the grapes. Destemming and slow must fermentation (18-20 days) in stainless steel tanks (gravity-flow). Malolatic fermentation and aging for 15 months partly in big wooden barrels (12 hl), partly in barrique and 8 months in the bottle.

Tasting notes & food matching

A ruby-red colour with slight tones of grenadine and an intense and complex bouquet with notes of ripe fruit, cherry and maraschino. A soft and delicate taste with a good fruity tannic framework and persistence. An excellent table wine, perfect for serving with roast meats, game and spicy cheeses.
