The mythological hero Achilles used it to heal the wounds of his soldiers. Hence the name of this herb with a characteristic aroma that the mountain tradition uses for its multiple properties. The pleasant characteristic bitter taste that is well suited to the scents of grappa is given by a glucoside, achillein, which is considered the active ingredient of the plant.

Achillea moscata is one of the best known and used plants in herbal liquor. Entry as a precious and irreplaceable aromatic component in most of the bitter aperitifs and digestives, in liqueurs of alpine herbs, in medicinal elixirs and above all in genepi. The bitter, pleasant and aromatic taste of Achillea stimulates the secretion of gastric juices, and therefore the appetite; it promotes digestion with beneficial effects on the phenomena resulting from poor digestion such as bad breath, a sense of weight and stomach pains, formation of intestinal gas. It lends itself well as a corrective to the flavor of infusions and decoctions.
