In Holland in 1734 the illustrious liquorist Petrus Boonekamp was born, who obtained this bitterness for the first time in 1777, from the distillation of rare vegetable substances collected on all continents; since then the fame of the bitter Petrus has spread rapidly throughout the world. Many herbs come into the composition of bitter Petrus. Among the others Galanga (Alpina Officinarum) is beneficial. Calanga is a perennial herb native to China and India. The parts of the plant used are the rhizomes that are extracted from the soil in autumn, washed and dried. Very used in pharmacies as Aromatic and Carminative Eupeptic, its smell is pleasant and its taste is bitter-spicy.
