Medicinal plants, herbs and roots, naturally present in the Mediterranean scrub, are one of the greatest resources that nature has made available to us. Equipped with therapeutic properties, in ancient times they were cultivated by monks in the Hortus Simplicium who distilled them, transforming them into natural medicines. Today the so-called "Erbajoli" are their greatest connoisseurs.

All the essences contained in Amaro Eroico are collected one by one throughout the year. The infusions and macerations are carried out cold at the same time and separately, so that the relative extracts capture all the freshness and keep their organoleptic properties intact.

ALTOMONTE: THE BEGINNING OF HISTORY
The history of Amaro Eroico is intertwined with that of Altomonte, a village in the heart of Magna Graecia, where in the early 11th century small groups of monks and hermits from Sicily and the East arrived, due to iconoclastic persecutions and of the barbarian and Saracen raids. Thus began the alchemical tradition of the small village.

THE LEGEND OF THE HEROIC BITTER
Legend has it that one night a small group of monks, housed in the church of Santa Maria dei Franchi, helped the princess to prepare her elixir of long life to restore the troops before the battle. Sichelgaita, as a sign of gratitude, invited the monks to stay in the village and gave them the secret recipe of her elixir di lei, an infusion made of Mediterranean herbs combined with citron, lemon and bitter orange peel.

THE MONKS AND THE PHARMACOPEA OF ALTOMONTE
No one would have ever imagined that that group of monks, led by Fra Delfino, would have developed the first Benedictine settlement in Altomonte a few years later, giving life
to the long monastic and alchemical tradition of that small village in the heart of Magna Graecia. Starting from the second half of the 11th century, they have followed one another in the territory of Altomonte
several monastic settlements - Benedictine, Dominican and Franciscan. From deep researchers and connoisseurs of officinal and spontaneous herbs, the monks became experts in natural medicine, experimenting over the centuries with the production of tonics for medicinal purposes.

And in the name of Sichelgaita's memory they continued to pass on and develop the recipe for her elixir.

COMPANY GIACOBINI ROYAL SPIRITS FACTORY
Once the monastic pharmacopoeia changed, the tradition remained in the art of liquor and in 1879 in Altomonte the Giacobini family founded the company which became not only a Royal Liquor factory but also the largest reality of the Bourbon kingdom, producing various internationally awarded specialties such as vermouth , xeres and various elixirs and rosoli based on local herbs and citrus fruits.

THE MOLITERNO FAMILY
It is within this historic company that the adventure of Carlo Moliterno, founder of the family and founder of the company of the same name, begins. In 1938, after the closure of the Giacobini company, he realized his dream by starting his own company of liqueurs and carbonated drinks based only on local products.
