You just have to open a jar of White Cream to become aware of the real aroma of hazelnuts, toasted to the right degree so that the subtleties of flavour are released to the full. The first spoonful is enough to make you realise the delicate balance there is between the liquid and solid substances. Gianduja Cream, on the other hand, takes up the tradition born of necessity among the Turin confectioners of the Nineteenth Century, who had to substitute in their products a part of the cocoa – which had become too expensive as a result of the trade block imposed by Napoleon on British industrial and colonial products– with the cheaper local hazelnuts.
