The wine
The typical freshness of the traditional Sangiovese variety joins the exuberance of the characteristic fruit of Merlot to represent the ancient territory of Montepulciano. The name of the wine celebrates Sabatino Lulli, known as "Sabazio", monk of the abbey of Montepulciano who was the first, in the medieval period, to provide the indications for the production of wine in the area.
Vinification
Upon arrival in the cellar, the grapes were destemmed and softly pressed. The must thus obtained was transferred to stainless steel tanks, where alcoholic fermentation took place at a controlled temperature not exceeding 28 °C in order to preserve and enhance the aromatic characteristics of the varieties. The wine rested in stainless steel vats where the malolactic fermentation took place and aged for about 4 months before being bottled in mid-March 2022.

The name of the wine is inspired by Sabatino Lulli, known as "Sabazio", a monk of the abbey of Montepulciano who was the first, in the medieval period, to provide the indications for the production of wine in the area. The first vintage of Vino Rosso di Montepulciano de La Braccesca was 1992.
Tasting notes
Sabazio 2021 has a ruby red color. The nose is characterized by fresh notes of red fruit, such as black cherry and raspberry, and by pleasant floral and balsamic scents. On the palate it is soft, with velvety tannins that accompany a pleasantly sapid and fresh finish. In the aftertaste the fruity sensations perceived by the nose return.
La Braccesca estate
La Braccesca extends over 508 hectares where the ancient farm of the Bracci counts once stood, from which the name of the estate and its coat of arms derive: an arm covered in armor holding a sword. Since 1990 the estate has been owned by the Marchesi Antinori. The total area of the vineyards is 340 hectares divided into two bodies: the first, of 366 hectares of which 237 are planted with vines, is located on the border between the municipalities of Montepulciano and Cortona. The other plot, 142 hectares of which 103 are vineyards, extends as far as Montepulciano between three of the most renowned sub-areas for the production of great red wines: Cervognano, Santa Pia and Gracciano.
