1 BOTTLE X 75cl.
THE WINE IS PRODUCED FROM VINEYARDS LOCATED BETWEEN 100 AND 200 M. ABOVE SEA LEVEL, WHOSE SOIL IS CHARACTERIZED BY QUARTZ SANDSTONES AND WHITE CLAYS MIXED WITH MARLY CALCAREOUS FLYSCH. VITICULTURE, FOUNDED ON METHODS AND PRINCIPLES THAT ARE TOTALLY RESPECTFUL OF THE ENVIRONMENT, ALLOWS FOR A SPONTANEOUS PRODUCTIVE BALANCE WITH LOW YIELD PER HECTARE. THE GRAPES ARE HAND-PICKED AND CAREFULLY SELECTED FROM VINEYARDS WITH AN AVERAGE AGE OF 25 YEARS, AMONG THE OLDEST IN THE DENOMINATION.
The vinification takes place in small open oak vats, with gentle manual punching down and a slow release of only the noble tannins. The wine is refined for at least 18 months in barriques. The saline terroir and the artisanal approach in the cellar are the founding elements of the distinctive character of Grattamacco Rosso, further enhanced by the presence of Sangiovese in the blend, in compliance with Tuscan tradition.
2021 VINTAGE
THE AROMATIC WIDENESS AND THE EXTRACTIVE RICHNESS WELL REVEAL THE GENEROUS CHARACTER OF THIS VINTAGE, IN WHICH THE ENERGETIC STRUCTURE OF THE WINE FINDS BALANCE IN THE ACIDIC FRESHNESS AND IN THE ENVELOPING TANNIN. EXTREME PERSISTENCE AND PRONOUNCED FLAVOR ACCOMPANY EACH OTHER IN PROGRESSION AND DENOTE A GRATTAMACCO OF MARKED VITALITY AND ENERGY.
CLIMATE
After a rather humid spring and a hot and dry summer, the sunny climate of the first half of September favored the balanced ripening of the grapes, with good concentration and excellent skins and tannic sensations of excellent consistency. The harvest of the grapes for Grattamacco began at the end of August and ended on September 28.
VINIFICATION
Grattamacco is produced from vineyards located between 100 and 200 m. above sea level, whose soil is characterized by white clay mixed with marly calcareous flysch and quartz and calcareous sandstone. The Mediterranean climate is tempered by frequent sea breezes. The viticulture, based on methods and principles that are totally respectful of the environment, allows a spontaneous productive balance with low yields per hectare. The grapes are hand-picked and carefully selected from vineyards with an average age of 25 years. The fermentation took place in open oak vats, with gentle and repeated manual punching down, allowing long macerations and a slow release of only the noble tannins. The wine was aged for 18 months in barriques and bottled in August 2023.
