The vintage:
Just like in the Northern Rhône, in Provence the 2023 vintage was full of contrasts, which required composure and meticulous and permanent attention in our vineyards. After a dry winter, the spring was particularly rainy with episodes of hail which caused damage. Following these heavy rains we had to deal with significant attacks of downy mildew before a particularly hot and dry summer. The harvest therefore began early on September 6th. Due to these climate risks, the crop offers a limited quantity but magnificent quality. Now the wines are refined quietly in the cellar. In autumn we were also able to harvest a good harvest of olives, of around 15 quintals.
Territory:
Miraval's studio is strongly influenced by sea spray and the proximity of the Mediterranean Sea. These saline soils give the wine a unique character and an almost iodized finish.
Farm:
All the vines are vinified by direct pressing. The Cinsault and Tibouren in stainless steel tanks. Grenache & Rolle are vinified partially in tulip-shaped concrete vats with rounded bottoms. This ovoid shape generates a natural convection movement which puts the lees in suspension and is similar to batonnage. The result is wines with a particular pulp.
Tasting:
Seductive, clear and brilliant color of a very pale pink with pastel reflections. Full of finesse and elegance, the nose offers a superb aromatic bouquet with notes of small red fruits and cherry blossoms. Wonderfully lively, the broad and distinct palate extends this refined character with seductive aromas of blood orange and redcurrant, perfectly balanced by a beautiful mineral structure and just the right touch of bitterness. The very long finish prolongs the tasty aromas of this elegant, beautifully balanced wine.
